Labels Don’t Have To Stick

Getting a diagnosis can be both a blessing and a curse.  On one hand, a diagnosis offers a category of information that allows a person to recognize their traits as being similar to others, which may ease the sense of loneliness and provide new tools for growing more comfortable with oneself.  On the other hand, a person may mistake a diagnosis as an ultimate prognosis or personal “fact” and resign to an unfulfilled life.

My goal is to help those with diagnoses realize their unique gifts and full potential so they live with greater purpose and joy!  One specialty population I enjoy providing services to is the young adult who has a diagnosis of Asperger’s syndrome.  Asperger’s often indicates high levels of achievement in some areas of intellect but also difficulty with social-communication skills.

Young adults who come to me often believe they are locked into this new diagnosis and therefore unable to achieve personal goals for financial, emotional, and relationship wealth.  However, through simple exercises I designed as part of my Communication Coaching program, they are quickly able to see that the brain is shaped by life experiences.

Since everything that one desires originates in the brain, it becomes a simple matter of creating fun, motivating life experiences to help their brain grow additional neural pathways for successful thoughts, feelings and relationships.  Building on one’s personal awareness leads to greater inter-personal awareness and allows them to get a job, live independently and meet the desire for fulfilling relationships. There is clear evidence of this when young adults go through a short three-month period of my holistic Communication Coaching program.   They report experiencing improved confidence, an enjoyable social life, more positive family dynamics and overall sense of worthiness.

No matter one’s age, our brains and skills are ever-changing according to our environment and motivation.  With the proper stimulation, everything that happens in a young brain can also happen in an older brain. If you are looking to achieve freedom from a diagnosis and are feeling “stuck” please contact Samantha at Brightening Connections http://brighteningconnections.com/contact/ to see if one of her programs is right for you.
